Yesterday i had to do a presentation in front of prominent people in my work area.
One hour before the presentation, i had the (usual) anxiety attack: racing heart, cold fingers + trembling, dry throat, extreme fear plus the (usual) irrational thoughts of: i would be embarrassing myself, i wont be able to say what i planned to say and so on.
I have just started the online therapy session last week and i was only up to session 2 whereby we were taught how to use SLOW TALK
I have practiced it a few times last week. And during the anxiety attack one hour before the presentation, i listened to the session again, opened up the handouts and started to read them slowly. i repeated it few times until i had to leave for the meeting.
Inside the meeting room, i kept my mind into thinking slowly. When my presentation started, i used the slow talk method and it really worked!! I was able to deliver my presentation, delivered all the points i needed to say, clearly and smoothly.
So i just want to share my story here. With this experience, i really believe that my social anxiety can be cured/controlled, and so can all of you. I am looking forward to the next session in my CBT.
