Hey everyone. The Skype calls are still going ahead weekly. We usually have 4 to 6 people on the call and it lasts for an hour and a half. We would love to have more people and always find that everyone makes a contribution to the calls. We follow a format so there is no pressure to speak or do anything you do not want to do. I will paste a copy of our format so you can see what to expect. Please join us. We have a fun time as well.
Group Leader: Chair the meeting, keep the flow going smoothly, encourage participation, read the preamble and roles:(aprox.10 mins)
Thank you for having the courage and determination to join us for the group call. We know it is not always easy. Remember we all feel some anxiety during the meetings. It is very important to realize no one is obligated to talk or do anything they do not want to do. We encourage you to participate when willing, however you always have the right to pass and will not be judged either way.
We are a support and recovery based group designed to provide a comfortable and non-judgemental environment where people can get together to share, learn, listen and overcome social anxiety.
Our main purpose is to provide an environment where we can share and practice the skills and strategies necessary to overcome social anxiety while providing a supportive and caring atmosphere.
We encourage members to keep coming back weekly and to participate in group activities as much as their present anxiety levels will allow. We also suggest trying to keep up with your 30-minute session work throughout the week as the program works best when you work the program.
It is recommended that you read the handouts in a slow and relaxed state to really get the material down into your mind.
We will now open the meeting with a circle of death introduction where you can tell us a little about whatever you like. Some suggestions are where you live, the current session you are working on, how long you struggled with social anxiety, how it has affected your life and how your week went. Of course all of this is voluntary and you may just remain silent, or say pass and we will move on. (group leader calls on each person including self to discuss)
We now call on _________ to introduce this week’s discussion topic. (Aprox.10-15 mins)
We now call on _________ to talk about some of the positive results they have achieved or heard about overcoming social anxiety followed by a group discussion (Aprox 5-10 mins)
We will now have a general group chat and open discussion. This need not be related to Social Anxiety. (Aprox 5-10 mins)
We now will begin the behavioral portion of the meeting. Please remember the activities are voluntary and you may participate, pass, observe or leave without judgement. I will now pass it over to _______ to start our impromptu topics.(Aprox 10 mins)
We will now give each person the opportunity to read a handout if they wish.(5-15 mins)
Now is the chance to practice some of your hierarchy or other group activates or role play exercises. Anyone have any suggestions? (10-15mins)
We can now give members an opportunity to take on a group role for next week. Any volunteers for 1. Group Leader: _______ 2. Discussion Topic Leader ________ 3. Positive Results Leader_______ 4. Impromptu Topics Leader¬_______
We will now allow each member say good bye before we close. This may include how the meeting went, what we could improve and any goals for the week. (Wish everyone good-bye and encourage them to come back next week)
Please check out steve t (socialanxietyshyness) on Skype. We would love to chat with you
