This topic is great idea.
As a kid I was never interested in sports, not even watching them on TV. Mostly cause I had no friends and I had low self esteem so I would loose in the beginning and then quit. That was wrong of course, but no one was there to tell me different.
Around 13 years old, I started smoking and drinking alcohol. The situation in society was very bad and this was encouraged all the time.
All changed when I was 23 and I had to do army training which was obligatory for all man older then 18 in my country. I knew that is going to be a problem but I was avoiding it for 5 years and couldn't any more.
I joined army and started running first time in my life. I suffered a lot and got humiliated often mostly cause of my social anxiety. But there was one good thing about army that helps me even today, 13 years later. I learned that getting physically tired helps my depression and anxiety.
After that, I joined the gym and started working on healthy diet. I learned a lot about it and I felt a lot better.
Unfortunately, later I got diabetes type 1 and I had to invest even more in healthy life stile. I am now insulin dependent and I take injection with every meal and one before going to bed.
I felt depressed cause all my healthy life stile for years didn't help me from getting sick. I felt stupid but I learned that it is specially better for this situation to eat healthy and exercise.
All that didn't stop me. I lost interest in gym but I started cycling and hiking. I easily do 50 miles on bicycle and I love every minute of it.
Knowing my situation, many people ask for advice about food and sports. Even I can't believe how far I got into it. As a boy, I was scared to go to school cause I couldn't play soccer and all boys will laugh at me or even beat me. Now, they are all mostly immobile and spend all day watching TV.
I have a bad habit of sometimes drinking to much but I look at that as having fun. I do have to dye from something, eventually.
