Distorted Thinking - what if


None of the distortions related to irrational thinking seem to deal with “what if” thinking. This is one of my issues. Does anyone else feel this way? Like while I’m talking to someone I start going off on a “what would happen if I did __ [related to being anxious] right now. That would be terrible.” I guess it’s a form of ANT and maybe mind reading.

Is this issue addressed anywhere later in the therapy?


That’s called catastrophizing or magnification; It’s also another cognitive distortion. You can google it for more info.


Yes, I tend to think that a lot.

All different dissasters. Even what if I am bad at my job and I might loose it, or if my roomates hate me and I will be homeless.

With therapy, you start to recognize that it does not happen even if you feel it will.
