Earlier this week, I was forwarded an email from someone expressing interest in my SA therapy group. This message, which was written in very broken English, explained that the writer's college-age daughter has a serious case of SA and desperately needed to come to my group, regardless of the fact that we're 4 weeks into the session.
I opted against it, primarily because in my experience when someone's parent decides that he/she needs to join a group, the son/daughter is not very motivated. And to have a successful experience with CBT, you need to want to make the effort. Everyone else who attends my meetings wants to be there and it shows.
The broken English also concerned me, but that's secondary.
Would you have done the same?
