It sounds like you handled the situation pretty well. Using the "Look around technique" while it happened would be the next step, so maybe you could work on that next?
But it's good you were able to focus on other people's intention's, and that they were good and positive for you etc... you were able to stay out of the ANTs land which is good.
The only way to get used to center of attention anxiety's like this is to keep doing them over and over, until they're happening so much that if feels like second nature / effortless... and no anxiety is involved. Obviously using the cognitive therapy strategies, and the "calming down" techniques while you do the behavioral practice speeds along the process and creates permanent change as well.
