You don't need to be that specific. The general idea is that, over time, you begin to realize that the automatic negative thoughts you have about yourself and the world are probably not true. In fact, you'll find these automatic negative thoughts (by definition) are irrational and cause you to beat yourself up and tear yourself down. Please do not believe these automatic negative thoughts and do not act on them by beating yourself up.
Labeling the thought briefly is important -- all this means is that you become aware that the ANT is incorrect or irrational. The more you remind your brain about this, in the moment, the more your brain changes. You are NOT fighting the ANTs. You are just aware that they pop up and they are WRONG. You tell your brain (briefly) that thought or belief is irrational and then move on. Don't overthink all this, please.
You will see why we do not fight or battle with ANTs in the upcoming sessions. You do not need to get anything "perfect" until you move on. It's a big mistake to dwell in one session for a long time because you don't think you did it right. Get the main ideas of the session, practice on them, but then move on to the next session. Many of the questions you have at this point are answered in the upcoming sessions.
NO BATTLING or FIGHTING with ANTs. Just an acknowledgement (awareness) that they are irrational and wrong. Then, tell your brain you're not going to keep believing the irrational beliefs and move on. No sitting in judgment, but these old automatic negative thoughts ARE wrong.
So, PEACEFULLY, get this into your brain; just do the best you can, and move on to the next session. You are doing fine, just don't try to get specific and overthink everything. That's what those of us with SA do...we tend to overthink, and over analyze... so let's not do that.
Keep going. it gets easier as the sessions fit together and make more sense.
